National Indicators Index : Issue 2 : Tourism Indicators

23/12/2018

As part of the efforts of the National Center for Statistics and Information to ensure the quality of statistical work within the Sultanate, a guide has been prepared for national statistical data and indicators in order to improve the efficiency of the utilization of the data and indicators made available and published and to facilitate the process of exchange and sharing of these indicators between the different stakeholders in a more effective manner. The guide aims also to remove any ambiguities or inconsistencies that may arise when using data and indicators, leading to greater confidence in the data and indicators produced by the Center.

Based on the role assigned to the Center in the collection, revision, processing and analysis of data issued by various entities within the Sultanate, it was necessary to prepare this manual, which contains the definitions of each indicator, the method of calculating the indicator by displaying its mathematical equations, unit of measurement, the primary authority to issue the statement, its periodicity, the level of geographic coverage as well as any other preferential level available for the statement.

The National Indicators guide was first published in 2016 to highlight Indicators issued monthly. The "National Indicators Guide- Second edition" provides a detailed explanation of the most important tourist statistical indicators issued by the Center in terms of importance, methodology of calculation, periodicity and other descriptive information of interest to users of data wishing to understand the nature of tourism data as the methodologies used to calculate indicators are based on international recommendations on tourism statistics and the methodological framework recommended in the tourism sub-account.
