The (NCSI) launched a survey on Oman's Tourism on 21st March, 2017, to collect important information and indicators on the status of local tourism in the Sultanate according to the basic demographic and social characteristics as well as the nature of tourist sites.
Popular tourist destinations
The survey will focus on Omanis and will consider various topics including the most popular tourist destinations frequented by Omanis in the Sultanate, the major deficiencies in tourism related services, and the tourists' priorities in terms of tourist facilities and services. It will also measure Omanis' satisfaction with the services and tourist facilities in the Sultanate.
The survey targets Omanis aged 18 years and above, with a minimum sample size of 1,500 across the governorates of the Sultanate. The margin of error is kept within 3%.
Telephone enquiries
The data will be collected through telephone enquiries. The telephonic survey method was chosen as it is relevant to the subject of the survey, and also more appropriate in terms of ease of execution and the number of questions.
It is worth noting that the survey is significant given that tourism is one of the pillars of the ninth five-year development plan and is one of the most important areas in terms of economic diversification. According to statistics released by the National Center for Statistics and Information, total internal tourism expenditure for 2015 (including tourists from abroad and residents in the Sultanate) stood at RO 265 million.
