The number of social insurance beneficiaries in the Sultanate touched 81,942 at the end of 2016, with the total amount spent on them reaching 119 million, 129 thousand, and 106 RO (119,129,106 RO) , according to the report on Social Insurance issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The statistics showed that there was a 3.2% drop in the number of beneficiaries in 2016 compared to 2015. The population of aged and disabled who benefit from social insurance has reached 71.4 %, as the number of senior citizens reached 33,132 with a total amount spent of 49 million 35 thousand and 240 RO. The number of disabled was 25,507 and 39 million 996 thousand and 129 RO (39,996,129 RO) was disbursed to them. The percentage of the divorcees benefitting from the social insurance is 14.3% with a total number of 11,744 and the total amount spent on them reached 12 million, 684 thousand and 245 RO (12,684,245 RO). The percentage of widows benefitting from the social insurance is 7.5% with a total of 6,165 which dropped by 447 compared to 2015. However, the total amount spent reached 10 million 80 thousand and 785 RO (10,80,785 RO).
The percentage of female beneficiaries, who were abandoned by their husbands, is 0.2% which is 179. This has dropped by 25.7% than the last year, with an amount disbursed reaching 338 thousand 309 RO (338,309 RO). Moreover, there were 2,225 unmarried girls who benefitted from the social insurance (3%) with 2 million and 476 thousand and one RO (2,476,001 RO), disbursed to them. Of the beneficiaries last year, there were 2,660 orphans representing 3% who got a total of 3 million 888 thousand and 816 RO (3,888,816 RO).
Among the beneficiaries there were 303, from the families of prisoners (0.4%). This rose to 11.4% compared to 2015 with a spent of 55,000 RO. A quarter of the beneficiaries (25.5%) of the Social Insurance hail from the Governorate of North Batinah at 20,915, followed by the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah at 7,954. The Governorate of Muscat had 7,865 beneficiaries followed by Ad Dhahira province with 6,148 beneficiaries. In the Governorate of Dhofar the number of beneficiaries reached 5,624 and in the Governorate of Al Buraimi there were 3,404 beneficiaries. The Governorate of Al Wusta had 2,835, the Governorate of Musandam 1,338, and the number of beneficiaries outside the Sultanate were only 148.
