The total number of fixed telephone line subscribers grew by 10.1% to 464 thousand and 989 at the end of June this year compared to December 2016 when it was 422 thousand and 518, according to the statistics released by the Center.
The data showed that the number of mobile phone subscriptions went up by 3.8% to 7 million 128 thousand and 135 compared to 6 million 866 thousand and 260 at the end of December last year. Of the total mobile phone services subscribers, there were 636 thousand and 856 post-paid subscriptions and 6 million 491 thousand and 279 pre-paid subscribers, the NCSI data showed. The number of active mobile broadband subscribers were at 4 million 330 thousand and 108. The total number of Internet service subscribers increased by 16.8% to 314 thousand and 895 at the end of June 2017 compared to 269 thousand and 549 in 2016. The number of fixed narrowband internet subscribers decreased by 1.1% to 2 thousand and 537, the number of fixed broadband internet subscribers grew by 17% to 312 thousand and 358 at the end of June this year compared to 266 thousand and 983 at the end of 2016, according to the NCSI data. Of the total number of fixed telephone lines, the Governorate of Muscat had the lines share at 52.3% compared to Al Wusta, which had to least at 0.2%. The governorate of Al Batinah had 15.7% of the total subscribers, followed by the Governorate of Dhofar, which had 10.6%. Both Ad Dakhiliyah and Ash Sharqiah had 7.1% each while Adh Dhahirah had 2.6% of the total number of subscribers at the end of June this year, according to the NCSI data.
