The new registrations of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Oman stood at 1,817 units for the first three months of 2018. This is against 2,759 new SME registrations for the same period of last year, shows the monthly data released by the Centre.

Among various governorates, Muscat governorate witnessed 685 new SME registrations (or 37.70 per cent of total registrations in the country) in January-March period of 2018, against 930 new registrations in the same period of last year, added NCSI report, quoting the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada) data. The new registrations of SMEs in Al Batinah North stood at 256 in the first three months of 2018, against 399 for the same period of last year, constituting 14.09 per cent share in total new registrations during January-March period.
This was followed by Ad Dakhliyah (212), Al Batinah South (136), Dhofar (128), Al Sharqiyah North (113), Ash Sharqiyah South (108), AdhDhahirah (93), Al Buraymi (62), Al Wusta (15) and Musandam (9). As many as 31,835 new SME units were registered in Oman in 2017, the NCSI report shows. Of this, 10,260 new units were in Muscat governorate.
