The (NCSI) participated in the Geographical Information Systems conference held on August 5-6, 2018, at Sultan Qaboos Youth Cultural and Entertainment Complex in Salalah. The Directorate General of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure represented the NCSI in the conference.
The NCSI participated in this conference due to the importance of the role played by the geographic information systems and spatial data in the correct decision-making process and robust planning. The geographic information support increase investment returns and help in achieving sustainable development. The NCSI presented four working papers at the conference.
The first paper, titled " National Spatial Data Infrastructure - Towards Building a Smart Spatial Society", was presented by Engineer Hasan bin Alawi bin Ahmad Al Ghazali, Director General of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. The Oman NSDI enables decision makers to obtain easy-to-use mechanism for appropriate geographical data. It also helps in spatial analysis to understand the issues involved, identify the geographical data available and improve the quality of government services.
Amal Bint Said Al Sibtiah, Technical manager of the Unified Addressing System project, presented the second paper titled "Smart Unified Addressing System". In this paper, she introduced the role played by the NCSI and other participating entities in the development of central addressing system database in the Sultanate of Oman. In her paper, she said that the central database will have addresses for all buildings and establishments also, explain Mechanism of integration the central addressing database with various government applications, which requires addresses of individuals or enterprises. This makes it easy for preparing smart census for the year 2020 and unifies guidance signs or sign boards (which are to be installed by the municipalities at a later stage of the project).
The third paper, titled "Unified Government Licensing System for Construction Works - a New Vision for the Integration of National Permit Systems", was presented by Saud bin Salim bin Saud Al Nofli, Director of the Spatial Data Department. The paper talked about the concept of the system aimed at improving the process of issuing permits and making it centralized by using standardizing procedures and adopting best practices. This system will provide better work environment, increases efficiency and reduces time and cost.
The fourth paper was presented by Majid bin Saeed bin Ali Al Busaidi, Director of Technical Services and Operations Department, on "Spatial Services and Smart Spatial Applications of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure ". In the presentation, he talked about the services and mobile web applications, provided by the National Spatial Data Infrastructure to governmental and private organizations as well as the society. These applications and systems include unified national base map, Oman NSDI Geoportal, Government Offices Locator, TourOman, Banki and Waqudi. (ENDS)
