The Unified Addressing System Committee reviewed the progress of the project in its third meeting of this year, which held on October 15th, 2018, in the premises of the Centre The meeting was held under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre.
It discussed the integration model of the addressing system data as well as challenges facing the data population and sustainability. During the meeting, work plans for applications for addressing locator and street naming were also presented. There was also a follow up of the decisions taken, and approvals were given to the minutes of the second meeting of 2018. The Unified Addressing System project is aimed at numbering of buildings and facilities, standardizing street names by making addresses simple to enable easy movement and identification of places in the city for citizens, residents and visitors of the Sultanate. It is also meant for providing precise and accurate geographic data.
The project is part of the strategic objectives of developing a secure and integrated infrastructure. Once completed, it will help in data acquisition and exchange to achieve integration and coordination between different organisations and move forward to create an advanced investment environment by making geographical navigation information available through a system.
