As part of the World Radio Day, which falls on February 13 every year, the (NCSI) has issued a statistical report on the number of hours of broadcast in public and youth channels according to the type of programs.
The programs included News, Cultural, Development, Children's programs, Youth and Sports, Entertainment and Art, as well as Connecting programs and Announcements. The data showed that the total number of hours broadcast in public channels in Arabic in the year 2018 was 8,760 hours. Among the various programs, Cultural programs topped the list of programs broadcast on public radio channels in Arabic, with the number of hours reaching 3,554 hours or 41% of the total hours broadcast. This was followed by 2,444 hours of Development Programs and 1,447 hours of Entertainment and Arts Programs. News programs were broadcast for 1,091 hours, which was 12.1% of the total hours broadcast. The number of hours of children's programs was 127, whereas Youth and Sports programs were broadcast for 83 hours in Arabic. Meanwhile, among the programs broadcast in public channels in English in 2018, Entertainment and Art programs remained the highest, with the number of hours reaching 6,367, representing 73% of the total broadcast hours, which is the highest number of broadcast hours for programs. This is followed by 1,297 hours of Development programs, 749 hours of Cultural Programs, and 255 hours of News programs in English.
However, according to the data, entertainment and art programs constituted the highest number of the programs broadcast in youth channels in 2018, reaching 4,054 hours, representing 46% of the total hours broadcast in youth channels. This was followed by development programs, reaching 1,866 hours. Cultural programs were broadcast for 1,352 hours and Youth and Sports programs were broadcast for 1,195 hours. There were 60 hours of News broadcast in youth channels, which was the lowest.
