The number of ambulance services provided in the Sultanate in response to requests involving trauma and medical emergency cases during the year 2015 stood at 11,123. Among them, as many as 6,078 – making up 55% of the total number of ambulance services -- were in the governorate of Muscat, says the latest Statistical Year Book published by the (NCSI).
Among the cases that required ambulance services, trauma cases stood first at 8,259 (74% of the total cases), while medical cases numbered 2,864 (26%). Al Batinah North came second, registering 1,864 ambulance-assisted interventions, accounting for 17% of the total cases, while Dhakhliyah recorded 826 cases, marking a share of 7%. Al Batinah South had 760 calls for ambulance services, while Buraymi had 408 requests. As many as 380 ambulance services were availed in the Dhofar governorate in 2015, whereas Sharqiah North logged 352 ambulance services.
In the case of Dhahirah, 170 emergency cases were reported that needed ambulance assistance. In the same year, Sharqiah South sought ambulance services 126 times. The number of ambulance services offered in the governorates of Musandam and Al Wusta stood at 93 and 76 respectively, marking the lowest figures among the governorates. The Statistical Year Book for 2015 is the 43rd such publication issued by the statistical centre, which aims to support the government's efforts to transform the Sultanate into an information and knowledge-based society.
