Towards gaining insights into the functions and contributions of the National Centre for Statistics & Information (NCSI) in enhancing the knowledge economy of the Sultanate, an 8-member delegation from the Ministry of Education visited the Centre's headquarters in Ghala.
Dr. Said bin Salim bin Hamad Al Harthy, the Director General of the Directorate-General for Population and Social Statistics, welcomed the visitors and briefed about the centre and its objectives.
The visiting team sat through a series of presentations on different topics given by NCSI officials representing various departments and projects. Badr Al Abdali from the Directorate-General for Information spoke about NCSI's role in enhancing knowledge in the Sultanate, while Shurooq Al Salti from the Directorate-General for Information talked about international statistical indicators and their significance. A presentation on population projections was given by Malik Al Rawahi from the General Directorate of Population and Social Statistics, which was followed by a session on the use and benefits of GIS in statistical projects, by Mohammed AL Hajri from the General Directorate for Information Technology.
The NCSI data portal was explained by Hasnat al Ajmi from the General Directorate for Information Technology. Finally, Nafisa Al Busaidy from the General Directorate of Population and Social Statistics spoke about the implementation mechanism used by the centre for household surveys.
The programme concluded with a general discussion session, where the delegation and the NCSI officials exchanged ideas, opinions and information.
