The Unified Addressing System Committee held its fourth meeting on Wednesday 13th November 2019 under the chairmanship of HE Dr Khalifa Al Barwani, Chief Executive Officer of the NCSI, at the NCSI premises in Ghala.
A number of topics on the meeting's agenda were reviewed by the committee, including the approval of minutes of the third meeting and follow up of the execution of decisions.
The meeting discussed the progress of the Unified Addressing System Project and reviewed the consultant documents, the technical team 'approved documents, the updates on the progress of the national baseline and the feeding systems of the addressing data.
The report on the data delivery workshop was discussed and the completed phases of delivering the addressing data to the municipalities and the timetable for the achieving the remaining phases was reviewed.
The meeting stressed on the previous recommendations that were aimed to develop a central geographical database in the municipalities, standardizing the addressing procedures in all municipalities, synchronizing with the national spatial data systems, and emphasizing the important of re-engineering the works processes in order to ensure its integration.
The Unified Addressing System project aims to provide a location tag to every building and facilities, standardize street names and to provide an accurate spatial data, in order to keep in pace with the rapid growth of the country through simplification of the addresses in a way which helps make movement and the identification of places easy for the citizens, residents and visitors of the Sultanate across the country.
This project is considered part of the strategic objectives that aim to develop a secure and integrated infrastructure that enables access and exchange of data to achieve integration and coordination between different organizations.
The addressing system can also be an advanced step to create an improved investment environment to make the geographical navigation information available and accessible as well.
