The number of mosques in the Sultanate of Oman reached 13,997 in 2018. The number of JAWAMI'A (Bigger than mosques which for the Friday prayers) reached 1,443, while the number of MUSALLA Al-EID (a place for Eid prayer) reached 767, according to data released by the NCSI.
The Culture Statistic Bulletin issued by NCSI shows that the number of Quran schools reached 884, with 29,013 students and 1,150 teachers.
It also stated that the number of pilgrims from the Sultanate was 14,262 in 2018, with around 48% of them being women.
The data show that the number of religious cadres in the Sultanate reached 4,737, including preachers, religious guides, imams, orators and religious instructors, with the percentage of females among religious cadres reached around 21%.
According to the bulletin, the number of tourist castles and fortresses reached 51, while the total number of tourists to these places reached 366,348.
The total number of visitors to 12 museums in the Sultanate increased by 1.3% in 2018, registering about 367,622 visitors.
The bulletin also shows that the total number of Omani artisans reached 21,557, with around 88% of them being craftswomen.
As for the reserves, the statistics show that the number of reserves reached 22 , distributed among 3 types of reserves )Plant reserves ,animal reserves and plant & animal reserves), with about 209 people working in these places, while the number of visitors reached 305,405, registering an increase by 25% compared to the previous year.
As for the theatrical activity, the number of theatrical performances increased by 18.9% to reach 157 shows performed in 13 theaters across Oman. It was attended by 95,282 spectators, registering a decrease in the attendance by 35.5% compared to the previous year.
The number of paintings and drawings increased by 0.5% to reach 955, while the number of visitors increased by 0.1% to reach 15,760. The number of Omani artists was 975, while the number of expatriate artists reached 68.
The number of books published in 2018 increased by 13% to reach 929, with 37% of them in the educational field.
