The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) held a
workshop on national accounts during the period of 13-16 January 2025
with the participation of a number of government entities in the
Sultanate of Oman.

Khamis Al-Sunaidi - Director of the National Accounts Department at NCSI
clarified that, the workshop bases on the vision of NCSI on knowledge's
enhancing in the Sultanate of Oman, and strengthening the principle of
cooperation and partnership with various government entities , while
the workshop aims to achieve a number of goals, including enhancing
economic knowledge through the national accounts system, and via its
preparation mechanisms and its most important outputs, as well as
simplifying the concepts of national accounts and explaining how to
collect and analyzing economic data, which will contribute to strengthen
the understanding of government units about the economic and financial
patterns in the Sultanate of Oman.
He
added that, the workshop also aims to enable concern cadres in the
government entities to use national accounts indicators effectively in
preparing economic reports and analyses and to improve the process of
making economic and social decisions through utilizing national accounts
indicators, which considered the basic pillar for analyzing the
economic status and thus enabling the government to make informative
decisions in terms of economic policies, determining public spending priorities and planning various development projects.
He
pointed out that, the workshop targeted the enhancement of coordination
between NCSI and various government units in order to keep pace with
the global economic developments, whereas the participants enabled to
quaint with the latest methods of analyzing national accounts ,that will contribute to improve their skills to keep pace with developments in the field of economic statistics.
The
day one of the workshop included an introduction to the 2008 National
Accounts System that based on the 2008 National Accounts System Manual,
which issued by the United Nations Statistics Division and a number of
related international organizations.
The
displayed system in the workshop includes a comprehensive conceptual
and accounting framework that can be used to create a macroeconomic
database suitable for analyzing and evaluating the performance of the
national economy.
The workshop also
addressed the basic concepts of national accounts, which includes a set
of accounting and statistical principles and foundations that provide a
complete view of the national economy within a coordinated and
integrated scientific framework.
The
various data sources necessary for preparing national accounts were
also addressed by the workshop in accordance with economic activities
and institutional sectors.
On the day
two of the workshop, the subject of the production account, was also
discussed, as it is considered the first account in the current
account's series, while it highlights the value added as a balancing
item in addition to measuring the production of some economic activities
of a special nature.
On its third
day, the workshop addressed the subject of the integrated economic
accounts, including the input-output tables and the supply-use tables.
The
last day of the workshop has addressed the subject of quarterly
national accounts in addition to an introduction to the economic
modeling.
