The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 0.7% in December 2024 compared to the same month in 2023 for the base year 2018, according to data on consumer price index numbers in the Sultanate of Oman issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
The data indicated an increase in the prices of miscellaneous goods and services group by 4.5%, health group by 3.2%, food and non-alcoholic beverages groups by 1.7%, restaurants and hotels group by 0.8%, recreation and culture group by 0.6%, and clothing and footwear group by 0.5%.
The prices of furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance group increased by 0.4%, education group by 0.1%, whereas the price of tobacco, communication, and those of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other types of fuel remained stable. On the other hand, the prices of the transportation groups decreased by 0.8%.
The inflation for the food and non-alcoholic beverages group in December 2024, the prices of vegetables increased by 7.6%; milk, cheese, and eggs by 3.8%; food products n.e.c by 3.7%; sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and candy by 2.8%; meat by 2.6%; fruits by 2.2%; oils and fats by 1.6%.
The prices cereals and bread remained stable, whereas the price of fish and non-alcoholic beverages decreased by 6.3% and 0.5%, respectively.
Musandam Governorate recorded the highest rate of increase in inflation at the end of December 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, as the index increased by 1.6%. This was followed by South Al Sharqiyah governorate at 1.5%, Al Wusta governorate at 1.4%, Al Dhahirah Governorate at 0.9% and Dhofar, Al Dakhiliyah and Al Buraimi Governorates at 0.8% and North Al Sharqiyah governorate at 0.7%.
Muscat governorate recorded an inflation rate of 0.6%, and North Al Batinah governorate at 0.5%. Meanwhile, inflation rate decreased by 0.1% in South Al Batinah Governorate.
