The Center received on Wednesday (October 25) students from Al Shamokh International School who were acquainted with the role of the Centre in promoting knowledge, statistics and population indicators.
The students learned about the mechanisms of the Centre's work in terms of the availability of information, collection of data and statistics and the identification of indicators that contribute to planning and decision-making. The students also witnessed a visual presentation by the Department of Population Statistics at the Directorate General of Population and Social Statistics, which focused on the definition of data sources and their stages of development and population estimates based on the results of population censuses and surveys. The presentation dealt with the dissemination of population data, which is carried out on a daily basis through the Population Hour, which is provided by the NCSI through its electronic portal and monthly and annual bulletins.
The presentation also addressed population projections by which future changes in the population are calculated on the basis of certain assumptions regarding the future trends in fertility, death and migration as well as factors of population change and methodology for calculating population projections. The visiting students were also acquainted with the library of NCSI, its system and the services it provides, and how to access the information in the library, which is the main source of data for visitors to the Centre.
