​The total number of the Sultanate's population reached 4 million, 185 thousand and 914 persons by the end of last May with a growth rate of 0.2%. The Omani citizens clocked two million, 338 thousand and 769 persons; while the expatriates registered one million, 847 thousand and 145 persons. The statistic indicated that there are 135 thousand and 513 expatriates whose places of residence are not recorded with a 1% decrease compared to the figures recorded last April. The latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that the majority of the Sultanate's population reside in Muscat Governorate whose residents increased with 0.4% compared to the figures recorded last April to reach one million, 288 thousand and 330 persons. The figures showed also that Muscat remains to be the only governorate in which the number of expatriate residents surpasses the number of the Omani residents. The number of expatriates residing in the Muscat reached 802 thousand and 24 persons compared to 486 thousand and 306 Omani residents. Al-Batinah North Governorate kept its position by coming second on the list of governorates containing the largest number of population in the Sultanate with 681 thousand and 333 residents logging a growth rate of 0.2% compared to the figures recorded last April. The number of the Omani residents in the governorate reached 461 thousand and 859 persons compared to 219 thousand and 474 expatriate residents. Al-Buraimi, Dakhiliyah , Sharqiyah South, Sharqiyah North and Dhahirah Governorates recorded also a growth rate of 0.2%. The population of Al-Buraimi reached 102 thousand and 911 persons. The figures of the Omani and expatriate populations were approximately equal as the Omani residents reached 51 thousand and 407 persons; while the expatriate residents reached 51 thousand and 504 persons. The population of Dakhiliyah Governorate reached 416 thousand and 332 persons including 321 thousand and 511 Omanis; in addition to 94 thousand and 821 expatriates. In Al-Sharqiyah South Governorate, the populations reached 275 thousand and 524 persons including 187 thousand and 935 Omanis; in addition to 87 thousand and 589 expatriates; while the populations of Al-Sharqiyah North Governorate reached 249 thousand and 716 persons including 162 thousand and 644 Omanis; in addition to 87 thousand and 72 expatriates. The populations of Al-Batinah South Governorate also increased with 0.3% to reach 375 thousand and 484 persons including 280 thousand and 102 Omanis; in addition to 95 thousand and 382 expatriates. The residents of Dhofar Governorate logged a 0.1% increase by reaching 386 thousand and 870 persons including 196 thousand and 42 Omanis; in addition to 190 thousand and 828 expatriates. The populations of Al-Wusta and Musandam Governorates witnessed a decrease of 0.3% and 0.1% respectively. The number of Al-Wusta's population reached 41 thousand and 310 persons including 22 thousand and 754 Omanis; in addition to 18 thousand and 556 expatriates; while Musandam's population reached 40 thousand and 849 persons including 26 thousand and 164 Omanis; in addition to 14 thousand and 685 .
