ارتفع إجمالي اشتراكات خدمات الاتصالات المتنقلة في سلطنة عُمان بنسبة 1.3 بالمائة بنهاية شهر يونيو 2026م، ليبلغ 8 ملايين و324 ألفًا و406 اشتراكات، مقارنةً بنهاية يونيو 2025م، وفقًا لأحدث البيانات الصادرة عن المركز الوطني للإحصاء والمعلومات.وأظهرت البيانات ارتفاع الاشتراكات النشطة للهاتف المتنقل الآجلة الدفع بنسبة 6.2 بالمائة، لتبلغ مليونًا و313 ألفًا و837 اشتراكًا، في حين تراجعت الاشتراكات النشطة للهاتف المتنقل المسبقة الدفع بنسبة 2.1 بالمائة، لتبلغ 5 ملايين و305 آلاف و401 اشتراك.وسجلت اشتراكات خدمات إنترنت الأشياء «آلة إلى آلة» نموًا بنسبة 9.3 بالمائة، لتبلغ مليونًا و705 آلاف و168 اشتراكًا بنهاية يونيو 2026م.وفي قطاع خدمات الإنترنت، سجل إجمالي الاشتراكات النشطة للإنترنت المتنقل ذي النطاق العريض ارتفاعًا طفيفًا بنسبة 0.3 بالمائة، ليبلغ 5 ملايين و534 ألفًا و86 اشتراكًا، فيما بلغ إجمالي الاشتراكات النشطة للإنترنت الثابت ذي النطاق العريض 591 ألفًا و630 اشتراكًا، مرتفعًا بنسبة 0.5 بالمائة مقارنةً بنهاية يونيو 2025م.وعلى صعيد تقنيات الإنترنت الثابت، ارتفعت اشتراكات تقنية الألياف البصرية للمنازل والمنشآت «FTTH/B» بنسبة 7.4 بالمائة، لتبلغ 364 ألفًا و487 اشتراكًا بنهاية يونيو 2026م.وفي المقابل، انخفضت اشتراكات الجيل الخامس الثابت بنسبة 2.5 بالمائة، لتبلغ 210 آلاف و125 اشتراكًا، كما تراجعت اشتراكات الجيل الرابع الثابت بنسبة 73 بالمائة، لتبلغ 5 آلاف و666 اشتراكًا.وانخفضت اشتراكات خدمة الخط المشترك الرقمي «ADSL» بنسبة 20.9 بالمائة، لتبلغ 8 آلاف و933 اشتراكًا، في حين سجلت الاشتراكات الساتلية أعلى معدل نمو بين تقنيات الإنترنت الثابت، مرتفعةً بنسبة 134.3 بالمائة، لتبلغ ألفًا و696 اشتراكًا.كما ارتفع إجمالي الاشتراكات النشطة للهاتف الثابت بنسبة 0.2 بالمائة، ليبلغ 439 ألفًا و829 اشتراكًا بنهاية يونيو 2026م.وارتفعت السعة الدولية للإنترنت بنسبة 31.8 بالمائة، لتصل إلى 5 ملايين و382 ألف ميجابيت/ثانية بنهاية يونيو 2026م.

The total number of mobile telecommunications subscriptions in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 1.3% by the end of June 2026, reaching 8,324,406 subscriptions, compared to the end of June 2025, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).The data showed that the active postpaid mobile subscriptions rose by 6.2% to 1,313,837 subscriptions, while active prepaid mobile subscriptions declined by 2.1% to 5,305,401 subscriptions.Subscriptions to Internet of Things (IoT) machine-to-machine (M2M) services recorded a 9.3% increase, reaching 1,705,168 subscriptions by the end of June 2026.In the internet services segment, the total number of active mobile broadband subscriptions recorded a slight increase of 0.3%, reaching 5,534,086 subscriptions. Meanwhile, total active fixed broadband subscriptions stood at 591,630, up by 0.5% compared to the end of June 2025.Regarding fixed broadband technologies, Fiber-to-the-Home/Building (FTTH/B) subscriptions increased by 7.4%, reaching 364,487 subscriptions by the end of June 2026.In contrast, Fixed 5G subscriptions declined by 2.5% to 210,125 subscriptions, while Fixed 4G subscriptions fell sharply by 73% to 5,666 subscriptions.Subscriptions to Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) services decreased by 20.9% to 8,933 subscriptions. Meanwhile, satellite broadband subscriptions recorded the highest growth rate among fixed internet technologies, surging by 134.3% to 1,696 subscriptions.The total number of active fixed-line telephone subscriptions also increased by 0.2%, reaching 439,829 subscriptions by the end of June 2026.International internet bandwidth expanded by 31.8%, reaching 5.382 million Mbps by the end of June 2026.

ارتفع المؤشر العام لبورصة مسقط بنهاية شهر يونيو 2026م بنسبة 66.8 بالمائة، ليبلغ 7,507.9 نقطة، مقارنةً بـ 4,500.9 نقطة بنهاية يونيو 2025م. كما ارتفعت قيمة الأوراق المالية المتداولة بنسبة 654.8 بالمائة، لتصل إلى 6 مليارات و923 مليونًا و403 آلاف ريال عُماني، فيما زاد إجمالي عدد الأوراق المالية المتداولة بنسبة 337.4 بالمائة، ليبلغ 23 مليارًا و157 مليونًا و424 ألف ورقة مالية، وفقًا لأحدث البيانات الصادرة عن المركز الوطني للإحصاء والمعلومات. وأوضحت البيانات أن مؤشر القطاع المالي بلغ 13 ألفًا و85 نقطة بنهاية يونيو 2026م، فيما بلغ مؤشر قطاع الصناعة 9 آلاف و757 نقطة، ومؤشر قطاع الخدمات 3 آلاف و50 نقطة. وفيما يتعلق بصافي تعاملات المستثمرين خلال النصف الأول من عام 2026م، سجل المستثمرون الأجانب صافي شراء بقيمة 73 مليونًا و877 ألف ريال عُماني، في حين سجل المستثمرون العُمانيون صافي بيع بقيمة 773 ألف ريال عُماني. كما سجل مستثمرو دول مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربية صافي بيع بقيمة 66 مليونًا و983 ألف ريال عُماني، فيما سجل المستثمرون العرب صافي بيع بقيمة 6 ملايين و121 ألف ريال عُماني.

The main index of the Muscat Stock Exchange) MSX), rose by 66.8% by the end of June 2026 to reach 7,507.9 points, compared with 4,500.9 points at the end of June 2025. The value of securities traded also increased by 654.8% to reach 6.923403 billion OMR, while the total number of securities traded rose by 337.4% to 23,157,424,000 securities, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The data showed that the Financial Sector Index stood at 13,085 points by the end of June 2026, while the Industrial Sector Index reached 9,757 points and the Services Sector Index stood at 3,050 points. In terms of net investor transactions during the first half of 2026, foreign investors recorded net buying of 73.877 million OMR, while Omani investors recorded net selling of 773,000 OMR. GCC investors recorded net selling of 66.983 million OMR, while Arab investors recorded net selling of 6.121 million OMR.

كشف الدكتور يوسف بن محمد الريامي مدير عام الإحصاءات الوطنية بالمركز الوطني للإحصاء والمعلومات عن إطلاق المركز لمؤشر "الناتج المحلي السريع Flash GDP"، والذي يتيح لمتخذي القرار الحصول على قراءة أولية لأداء الاقتصاد بعد مرور 30 يومًا فقط من انتهاء الربع السنوي، بدلًا من انتظار صدور البيانات الربعية الكاملة بعد ثلاثة أشهر، وهو ما يوفر مؤشرًا سريعًا حول اتجاه الاقتصاد.وقال الريامي -في حوار خاص مع "الرؤية"- إنَّ سلطنة عُمان حققت خلال السنوات الأخيرة مؤشرات إيجابية على المستويين الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، مُشيرًا إلى أن قراءة المؤشرات منذ عام 2020 وحتى اليوم تعكس نموًا ملحوظًا في عدد من القطاعات الحيوية، وفي مقدمتها الأنشطة الاقتصادية غير النفطية، التي أصبحت تسهم بصورة متزايدة في الناتج المحلي الإجمالي، بما تعطي صورة للتوجهات الوطنية الهادفة إلى تنويع مصادر الدخل وتعزيز تنافسية الاقتصاد الوطني.&nbsp;وأضاف أن من أبرز المؤشرات الاقتصادية الدالة على هذا النمو تجاوز الناتج المحلي الإجمالي الحقيقي قيمة 39 مليار ريال عماني بنهاية 2025 لأول مرة، إضافة الى تدفقات الاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر، موضحًا أن الرصيد التراكمي للاستثمارات الأجنبية المباشرة في سلطنة عُمان تجاوز 32 مليار ريال عُماني بنهاية الربع الأول 2026، مقارنة مع 14 مليار ريال عماني في عام 2020، فيما بلغ متوسط التدفقات السنوية خلال نفس الفترة 3.2 مليار ريال عُماني، وهو ما يعكس ثقة المستثمرين في البيئة الاستثمارية العُمانية، وقدرة الاقتصاد الوطني على استقطاب استثمارات نوعية في قطاعات واعدة.وتابع أن الميزان التجاري أيضًا حقق نتائج إيجابية خلال السنوات الخمس الماضية؛ الأمر الذي يعكس اتساع النشاط الاقتصادي وتطور حركة التجارة في سلطنة عُمان، ويؤكد حيوية السوق وقدرته على التفاعل مع المتغيرات الإقليمية والدولية.وفي الجانب الاجتماعي، أوضح الريامي أن مؤشرات التشغيل والتوظيف تعكس قدرًا من الاستقرار والنمو في سوق العمل، سواء في القطاع الحكومي أو القطاع الخاص، مبينًا أن معدلات التشغيل شهدت تحسنًا خلال الفترة من 2020 إلى 2025، بما يؤكد استمرار الجهود الوطنية الرامية إلى توفير فرص العمل وتعزيز مشاركة الكوادر العُمانية في مختلف الانشطة الاقتصادية.الأرقام جوهر التخطيطوأكد مدير عام الإحصاءات الوطنية أن الأرقام والإحصاءات تمثل "روح التخطيط" والركيزة الأساسية لدعم صناعة القرار والتخطيط؛ نظرًا لما توفره من قراءة دقيقة للواقع الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، وما تقدمه من مؤشرات واضحة تساعد على استشراف الاتجاهات المستقبلية.وأشار الريامي إلى أن المركز الوطني للإحصاء والمعلومات يؤدي دورًا محوريًا في قياس أداء الأنشطة الاقتصادية المستهدفة ضمن الخطط الخمسية وأهداف رؤية "عُمان 2040"؛ إذ تعتمد العديد من مؤشرات الرؤية على البيانات والإحصاءات الصادرة عن المركز. وبيَّن أن المؤشرات الإحصائية تساعد مُتخذي القرار على تحديد القطاعات التي تحقق نموًا، والأنشطة التي تشهد تراجعًا أو انكماشًا، بما يمكّن الجهات الحكومية من اتخاذ قرارات أكثر دقة وكفاءة.وأوضح الريامي أن المركز يحرص على إعداد تقارير دورية وتحليلات متخصصة لمتخذي القرار، تتناول الأوضاع الاقتصادية والاجتماعية وتقدم قراءات معمقة لمختلف المتغيرات. ولفت إلى أن استخدام المؤشرات لم يعد مقتصرًا على الجانب الكمي فحسب، بل امتد إلى التحليل النوعي، بما يوفر بيانات أكثر تفصيلًا ودقة، ويعزز قدرة المؤسسات على بناء خططها وقراراتها التنموية على أسس علمية راسخة.وأضاف أن المركز ينفذ تحليلات إحصائية متخصصة لعدد من المؤشرات، ومنها مؤشر التضخم، من خلال تحديد السلع التي تشهد ارتفاعًا في الأسعار، وتقديم صورة متكاملة لصناع القرار حول أداء هذه المؤشرات وتطورها وانعكاساتها.مصادر إنتاج البياناتوفيما يتعلق بآليات إنتاج البيانات والإحصاءات، أوضح الريامي أن المركز يعتمد على 3 مصادر رئيسية، ويتمثل المصدر الأول في المسوح الدورية باستخدام الربط التقني بين المركز وعدد من مؤسسات القطاع الخاص، والمصدر الثاني فهو البيانات الإدارية، التي يتم الحصول عليها من خلال السجلات الإدارية والربط الإلكتروني مع المؤسسات الحكومية، مشيرًا إلى أن سلطنة عُمان تعد من الدول المتقدمة في هذا المجال. وأوضح أن إنشاء مركز السجلات الوطنية جاء استنادًا إلى أحد مبادرات التعداد الإلكتروني لعام 2020، وأسهم في بناء قاعدة بيانات وطنية متكاملة تتيح تدفق البيانات بصورة آنية، وتمكن مختلف المؤسسات من الاستفادة منها بشكل مستمر.أما المصدر الثالث، بحسب الريامي، فيتمثل في استطلاعات الرأي العام التي ينفذها المركز لقياس الخدمات المقدمة للأفراد والمؤسسات، أو دراسة الظواهر المختلفة، موضحًا أن المركز ينفذ أكثر من 100 استطلاع سنويًا، عبر التواصل المباشر مع عينات الدراسة من خلال مركز الاتصالات التابع للمركز.وأكد أن وجود مركز اتصال مُتخصص يُعد من المبادرات النوعية التي تميز المركز الوطني للإحصاء والمعلومات، لما له من دور في قياس آراء المواطنين والمقيمين، وتقييم الخدمات، ودراسة مختلف القضايا الاجتماعية والاقتصادية.تطوير الإحصاءوقال الريامي إن المركز وظّف التقنيات الحديثة على نطاق واسع في جمع البيانات وإيصال المعلومات؛ إذ أصبحت معظم البيانات ترد إلكترونيًا عبر الربط المباشر مع المؤسسات؛ الأمر الذي حدّ من الحاجة إلى العمل الميداني التقليدي، ورفع كفاءة العمليات الإحصائية.وأضاف أن المركز يعمل على نشر المؤشرات والإحصاءات عبر قنوات متعددة، تشمل شاشات المعرفة في المؤسسات الحكومية، ووسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، والمنصات الرقمية، بما يسهل وصول المعلومات إلى المستفيدين، ويعزز حضور البيانات في الحياة اليومية وصناعة القرار.وأشار إلى أن المركز يتابع بصورة دورية مجموعة من المؤشرات الرئيسية التي تعد مرجعًا لقراءة الواقع الاقتصادي والاجتماعي واستشراف الاتجاهات المستقبلية، وفي مقدمتها مؤشر الناتج المحلي الإجمالي، الذي يعكس معدلات النمو الربعية والسنوية للاقتصاد الوطني، إلى جانب مؤشر الاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر، الذي يقيس حجم التدفقات المالية والأنشطة الاقتصادية القادرة على استقطاب الاستثمارات الخارجية.كما يتابع المركز مؤشرات الواردات والصادرات والميزان التجاري، التي توفر صورة واضحة عن حجم السوق والتبادل التجاري وسلاسل الإمداد.المؤشرات الاقتصادية والاجتماعيةوأوضح الريامي أن هناك عددًا من المؤشرات في غاية الأهمية لواضعي السياسات والخطط الاستراتيجية يحرص المركز على نشرها بدورية ثابتة، من أهمها مؤشر التضخم الذي يعد من أهم المؤشرات الاقتصادية؛ نظرًا لارتباطه المباشر بمستوى الأسعار والقوة الشرائية للأفراد، وتأثيره في السياسات المالية والنقدية وإعداد الموازنات العامة.وتابع حديثه أن المركز يولي اهتمامًا خاصًا بمؤشرات الباحثين عن عمل النشطين؛ إذ يتم نشر معدلاتهم بصورة دورية وشهرية بحسب المحافظات والفئات العمرية والجنس والمستويات التعليمية، إلى جانب تزويد الجهات المختصة بهذه البيانات لدعم عمليات التحليل والتخطيط.وأشار الريامي إلى أن المركز يُنتج كذلك مجموعة واسعة من المؤشرات السكانية والاجتماعية، تشمل معدلات النمو السكاني، والمواليد، والوفيات، والزواج، والطلاق، إضافة إلى مؤشرات التعليم والصحة ومعدلات الالتحاق، والدراسات المرتبطة بالأمية والقراءة وغيرها من المؤشرات التي تعكس واقع المجتمع العُماني وتطوره.وبيّن أن أبرز المؤشرات التي يركز عليها المركز بصورة مستمرة تتمثل في الناتج المحلي الإجمالي، ومعدلات التضخم، والميزان التجاري، ومعدلات الباحثين عن عمل، وهي مؤشرات يتم إصدارها وفق دوريات زمنية ثابتة.مؤشرات حديثةوفي إطار تطوير المؤشرات الحديثة، أوضح الريامي أن المركز ينفذ حاليًا مسح الاقتصاد الرقمي، الذي يقيس مدى استخدام الرقمنة في الأنشطة الاقتصادية، بما يشمل منصات الوساطة، والتجارة الإلكترونية، ومدى اعتماد المؤسسات على التقنيات الحديثة في عمليات الإنتاج والخدمات.وأضاف أن المركز ينفذ مسح نفقات ودخل الأسرة بالذكاء الاصطناعي، الذي يعد من أهم المسوح الوطنية، لما يوفره من بيانات تفصيلية حول أنماط الإنفاق ومستويات الدخل للأسر في سلطنة عُمان. وأكد الريامي أن المركز يعمل بشكل مستمر على تطوير منظومة الإحصاءات الوطنية ورفع جودة البيانات وتسريع إصدارها، من خلال التوسع في التحول الرقمي، حيث أصبحت المؤسسات ترفع بياناتها عبر روابط إلكترونية مباشرة، بدلًا من تبادل الملفات بالطرق التقليدية، الأمر الذي أسهم في مكننة العمليات الشهرية وتسريع إعداد النشرات والإصدارات الإحصائية.وذكر أن المركز وظّف تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي وأدوات التحليل الحديثة، إلى جانب التطبيقات الذكية في إعداد التصاميم والرسوم البيانية وتحليل البيانات، بما يدعم جودة المخرجات الإحصائية ويعزز قدرتها على خدمة مختلف الفئات المستفيدة.ذكاء المسوحوبيّن الريامي أن استخدام الخوارزميات والذكاء الاصطناعي أحدث نقلة نوعية في تنفيذ المسوح الإحصائية، ومن بينها مسح نفقات ودخل الأسرة بالذكاء الاصطناعي، الذي كان يتطلب في السابق تكاليف مالية كبيرة، بينما أصبح اليوم أكثر كفاءة وأقل تكلفة بفضل التقنيات الحديثة. واعتبر أن التعداد الإلكتروني من أبرز الإنجازات التي تحققت في العمل الإحصائي؛ إذ تم تنفيذه دون الحاجة إلى زيارات ميدانية، كما أتاح إمكانية تحديث البيانات بصورة مستمرة وبتكاليف محدودة للغاية. ولفت الريامي إلى أن المركز يعمل حاليًّا على تطوير أدوات لقياس السياحة الداخلية، بما في ذلك رصد أعداد زوار موسم خريف ظفار، والحركة السياحية باستخدام تقنيات تتبع الحركة والبيانات المكانية، موضحًا أن هذه المشاريع ستسهم في توفير مؤشرات أكثر دقة لدعم قطاع السياحة وتعزيز مساهمته في الاقتصاد الوطني.خدمة المستثمرين والباحثينوحول دور المركز في خدمة المستثمرين والباحثين، قال الدكتور يوسف الريامي إن المركز يُعنى بتلبية احتياجات المُخطِّطين والباحثين والدارسين في مختلف المجالات، من خلال توفير البيانات وإتاحتها عبر الإصدارات الدورية والمنصات الرقمية وقواعد البيانات المفتوحة. وأشار إلى أن سلطنة عُمان مُمثلة في المركز حققت المركز الأول على مستوى غرب آسيا، والتاسع عالميًا في البيانات المفتوحة لعام 2024 (ODIN)؛ بما يعكس تقدمها في مجال إتاحة البيانات وفق المعايير الدولية، مع الالتزام التام بحماية سرية البيانات الفردية، وإتاحة البيانات المجمعة للأفراد والمؤسسات بما يدعم أهداف التنمية والتخطيط وصناعة القرار المبني على الأدلة.وأوضح أن المركز يُقدِّم كذلك الاستشارات الفنية للمؤسسات، ويتعاون معها في تنفيذ العديد من الدراسات والمشاريع البحثية، فضلًا عن تسهيل أعمال الدارسين والباحثين وتوفير البيانات المطلوبة لهم. وأكد الريامي أن الدور الوطني للمركز الوطني للإحصاء والمعلومات يتمثل في دعم التخطيط وصناعة القرار وتعزيز الاقتصاد القائم على المعرفة، من خلال بيانات دقيقة ومؤشرات موثوقة تُسهم في قراءة الواقع واستشراف المستقبل.

Dr Yusuf bin Mohammed al Riyami, Director General of National Statistics at the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman has achieved positive indicators in recent years at both the economic and social levels. He noted that reading the indicators from 2020 to the present reflects notable growth in a number of vital sectors, foremost among them non-oil economic activities, which have increasingly contributed to the gross domestic product (GDP), reflecting national trends aimed at diversifying sources of income and strengthening the competitiveness of the national economy.In an exclusive interview with Al Roya, al Riyami said that among the most prominent economic indicators reflecting this growth was real GDP exceeding 39 billion OMR by the end of 2025 for the first time, in addition to foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows. He explained that the cumulative stock of foreign direct investment in the Sultanate of Oman exceeded 32 billion OMR by the end of the first quarter of 2026, compared with 14 billion OMR in 2020, while average annual inflows during the same period stood at 3.2 billion OMR. This, he said, reflects investor confidence in Oman’s investment environment and the national economy’s ability to attract quality investments in promising sectors.He added that the trade balance also achieved positive results over the past five years, reflecting the expansion of economic activity and the development of trade movement in the Sultanate of Oman, while confirming the vitality of the market and its ability to respond to regional and international changes.On the social front, al Riyami explained that employment and job indicators reflect a level of stability and growth in the labour market, both in the government and private sectors. He noted that employment rates improved during the period from 2020 to 2025, confirming the continuation of national efforts aimed at providing job opportunities and enhancing the participation of Omani talent across various economic activities.Figures Are the Spirit of PlanningThe Director General of National Statistics stressed that figures and statistics represent the “spirit of planning” and the fundamental pillar for supporting decision-making and planning, given their role in providing an accurate reading of economic and social realities and clear indicators that help anticipate future trends.He pointed out that the National Centre for Statistics and Information plays a pivotal role in measuring the performance of targeted economic activities within the five-year development plans and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, as many of the Vision’s indicators depend on data and statistics issued by the Centre. He explained that statistical indicators help decision-makers identify sectors that are recording growth and activities that are witnessing decline or contraction, enabling government entities to make more accurate and efficient decisions.Al Riyami said the Centre is keen to prepare periodic reports and specialised analyses for decision-makers, covering economic and social conditions and providing in-depth readings of various developments. He noted that the use of indicators is no longer limited to quantitative aspects, but has expanded to include qualitative analysis, providing more detailed and accurate data and strengthening institutions’ ability to build their development plans and decisions on solid scientific foundations.He added that the Centre carries out specialised statistical analyses for a number of indicators, including the inflation indicator, by identifying goods that are witnessing price increases and providing decision-makers with an integrated picture of the performance, development and implications of these indicators.Three Main Sources for Data ProductionRegarding data and statistics production mechanisms, al Riyami explained that the Centre relies on three main sources. The first is periodic surveys using technical linkage between the Centre and several private-sector institutions. He explained that the Centre conducts more than 100 surveys annually through direct communication with study samples via the Centre’s call centre.He affirmed that the existence of a specialised call centre is one of the qualitative initiatives that distinguish the National Centre for Statistics and Information, given its role in measuring the views of citizens and residents, evaluating services and studying various social and economic issues.Digital Transformation Enhances the Efficiency of Statistical WorkAl Riyami said the Centre has widely employed modern technologies in collecting data and delivering information. Most data now arrive electronically through direct linkage with institutions, reducing the need for traditional fieldwork and improving the efficiency of statistical operations.He added that the Centre works to publish indicators and statistics through multiple channels, including knowledge screens in government institutions, social media platforms and digital platforms, facilitating access to information for beneficiaries and strengthening the presence of data in daily life and decision-making.He pointed out that the Centre periodically monitors a set of key indicators that serve as a reference for reading economic and social realities and anticipating future trends. At the forefront is the gross domestic product indicator, which reflects quarterly and annual growth rates of the national economy, in addition to the foreign direct investment indicator, which measures the volume of financial inflows and economic activities capable of attracting external investments.The Centre also monitors import, export and trade balance indicators, which provide a clear picture of market size, trade exchange and supply chains.Key Periodic Economic and Social IndicatorsAl Riyami explained that there are a number of highly important indicators for policymakers and strategic planners that the Centre is keen to publish on a fixed periodic basis. Among the most important is the inflation indicator, which is one of the key economic indicators due to its direct link to price levels, individuals’ purchasing power, its impact on fiscal and monetary policies, and the preparation of public budgets.The Centre also pays special attention to indicators related to active jobseekers, publishing their rates periodically and monthly by governorate, age group, gender and educational level, while also providing the relevant authorities with these data to support analysis and planning.He noted that the Centre also produces a wide range of population and social indicators, including population growth rates, births, deaths, marriages and divorces, in addition to education and health indicators, enrolment rates, and studies related to illiteracy, reading and other indicators that reflect the reality and development of Omani society.He explained that the most prominent indicators on which the Centre focuses continuously are GDP, inflation rates, the trade balance and job seeker rates, all of which are issued according to fixed time schedules.Al Riyami revealed the launch of the Flash GDP indicator, which enables decision-makers to obtain an initial reading of economic performance only 30 days after the end of the quarter, instead of waiting for the full quarterly data to be issued after three months. This provides a rapid indicator of the direction of the economy.Modern Indicators for the Digital Economy and Household Income--As part of the development of modern indicators, al Riyami explained that the Centre is currently conducting the Digital Economy Survey, which measures the extent to which digitisation is used in economic activities, including intermediary platforms, e-commerce and the degree to which institutions rely on modern technologies in production and service operations.The Centre is also conducting the Household Expenditure and Income Survey using artificial intelligence, one of the most important national surveys, as it provides detailed data on spending patterns and household income levels in the Sultanate of Oman.He affirmed that the Centre is continuously working to develop the national statistics system, improve data quality and accelerate data releases by expanding digital transformation. Institutions now submit their data through direct electronic links instead of exchanging files through traditional methods, contributing to the automation of monthly operations and accelerating the preparation of statistical bulletins and publications.He added that the Centre has employed artificial intelligence technologies and modern analysis tools, in addition to smart applications in preparing designs, graphics and data analysis, supporting the quality of statistical outputs and enhancing their ability to serve different beneficiary groups.Artificial Intelligence Marks a Qualitative Shift in SurveysAl Riyami explained that the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence has brought about a qualitative shift in the implementation of statistical surveys, including the Household Expenditure and Income Survey using artificial intelligence. In the past, this survey required significant financial costs, while today it has become more efficient and less costly thanks to modern technologies.He considered the e-Census one of the most prominent achievements in statistical work, as it was implemented without the need for field visits and enabled data to be updated continuously at very limited cost.He pointed out that the Centre is currently developing tools to measure domestic tourism, including monitoring the number of visitors to the Khareef Dhofar season and tourism movement using movement tracking technologies and geospatial data. He explained that these projects will contribute to providing more accurate indicators to support the tourism sector and enhance its contribution to the national economy.Data in the Service of Investors and ResearchersOn the Centre’s role in serving investors and researchers, Dr Yusuf al Riyami said the Centre is concerned with meeting the needs of planners, researchers and students in various fields by providing data and making it available through periodic publications, digital platforms and open databases.He pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Centre, ranked first in West Asia and ninth globally in open data in 2024 according to the Open Data Inventory (ODIN). This reflects Oman’s progress in making data available according to international standards, while fully adhering to the protection of individual data confidentiality and providing aggregated data to individuals and institutions in a way that supports development, planning and evidence-based decision-making.He explained that the Centre also provides technical consultancy to institutions and cooperates with them in implementing many studies and research projects, in addition to facilitating the work of students and researchers and providing them with the required data.Al Riyami concluded by affirming that the national role of the National Centre for Statistics and Information is to support planning and decision-making and strengthen a knowledge-based economy through accurate data and reliable indicators that contribute to reading the present and anticipating the future.
