The Sultanate registered a year-on-year (CPI-based) inflation rate of 1.33% for September 2016, driven mainly by a 6.57% rise in prices in the transport set, and a 0.77% rise in the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels set. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance went up by 0.92%, according to the latest report published by (NCSI).
Health prices increased by 0.91%, education registered a rise of 3.03%, restaurants and hotels by 0.37%. Goods and different services by 0.4%.
In contrast, group of foodstuff and non-alcoholic beverages prices went down by 0.77%, clothing and footwear fell by 0.46%, communications by 0.26%, culture and entertainment by 0.48%.
At the level of governorates, the Governorate of Dhofar witnessed the highest inflation rate by 2.66%, followed by the Governorates of North and South A'Sharqyiah by 1.46%, the Governorate of North Al Batinah by 1.43%, the Governorate of A'Dhahirah by 1.33%, the Governorate of A'Dakhiliyah by 1.3%, the Governorate of Al Buraimi by 1.26% and the Governorate of Muscat by 1.01%.
In comparison with the previous month, the general index of consumer prices went down by 0.33% where foodstuff and non-alcoholic beverages witnessed a decrease by 0.21%, clothing and footwear by 0.28% and restaurants and hotels by 0.38%.
Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance went down by 0.01%, transport by 1.2% and health prices 0.03% while housing water, electricity, gas and other fuels and education settled at the same prices.
