The National Committee for competitiveness held its first meeting on 12th January 2017 under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sultan Bin Salim Al Habsi, the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning, who is also the Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of Their Excellencies and members, at the head office of the (NCSI) building.
The Committee discussed a number of topics related to business, including the completion of the formation of the Committee by appointing members from various agencies, and means of achieving its objectives in partnership with the private sector.
The committee was set up with a view to enhance competitiveness of the economic sector, and also encourage competition in the Sultanate, thereby improving the overall business environment in Oman. The Committee also took several appropriate decision on various topics and issues on the agenda. It is worth mentioning that the National Committee for competitiveness is mandated with stimulating and supporting the national economy and business environment so as to enhance the general competitiveness of the Sultanate locally and internationally, particularly in terms of the country's international indicators.
It is also mandated with the adoption of a proper strategy with respect to the course of action as well as mechanism and methodologies that can help the committee achieve the set goals. The Committee also oversees various efforts to raise competitiveness towards enhancing international indicators for Oman, by facilitating a dialogue between the public and private sectors.
Further, it endeavors to build national capabilities in the field of competitiveness through analysing international reports and measuring and monitoring national competitiveness at the national, regional and international levels. It also formulates and proposes the required laws and regulations that boost the competitiveness level of the Sultanate.
