The (NCSI) will participate in the GCC Traffic Week exhibition to be held from 12-16 March 2017 at the Muscat City Centre.
Themed 'Your life is a trust' the event is organised by the Royal Oman Police at the Muscat City Centre as well as the Muscat Grand Mall, towards raising public awareness about traffic safety and issues. Eng. Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, will inaugurate the traffic exhibition.
NCSI will have a stall at the venue, offering a wealth of information on Oman's traffic sector, through a series of publications, bulletins, leaflets and analysis reports. NCSI has been regularly participating in the traffic event as part of its efforts at enhancing statistical knowledge in the Sultanate and highlighting the importance of community partnerships between various government and private sectors. In preparation for the event, NCSI has published a report, incorporating a number of statistical indicators related to traffic covering roads, vehicles, road accidents, driving licenses and others.
According to the report, in 2016 over-speeding caused 55% of deaths on the road, while risky overtaking contributed to 10% of traffic related deaths. Negligent driving caused 15% of road fatalities. As a result of major initiatives by the Royal Oman Police aimed at increasing public awareness about traffic safety, the number of road accidents declined by 32.8% last year.
