The (NCSI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman Global Logistics Group—a government holding company engaged in driving and implementing the Oman's National Logistic Strategy—to provide information, exchange expertise and services in statistical and research fields and train staff.
According to the memorandum, which was signed on Wednesday (April 19, 2017) at the Centre's headquarters in Ghala, NCSI will provide the logistics agency with relevant statistical information to the Omani International Logistics Group, whiel the latter will participate in joint studies and research projects with the Center, providing the necessary scientific expertise for research and studies.
HE Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, Chief Executive Officer of the National Center for Statistics and Information said that the signing of the memorandum was aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two entities in order to enhance dissemination of statistical data for the vital sector of logistics, supporting economic diversification in the Sultanate. "The memorandum will allow the development of an information base on the logistics sector across organizations and branches, which will enable concerned parties to measure the performance of this sector and formulate plans for development," he said.
The Center attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with the private sector, which is a key partner in development. This memo will translate this partnership into reality, which will be reflected in the support for undertaking studies and statistical research and preparing surveys about the logistics sector, he added.
He concluded by inviting the private sector to benefit from the outputs provided by the National Center for Statistics and Information, which will continue to strive to provide the sector with the latest data and indicators through various statistical surveys and opinion polls.
Eng. Abdulrahman bin Salem Al Hatami, CEO of Oman Global Logistics Group, said: "This Memorandum is a continuation of the Group's efforts to establish an accurate and detailed database that will help facilitate decision making related to the development of the logistics sector within a specified time frame. This cooperation is also the beginning of a research partnership with NCSI, through which we seek to enhance the knowledge aspects of the sector and serve the two sides as well as researchers and specialists." The memorandum will provide ample opportunities for the company to benefit from the Center's expertise and programs, he added.
The MoU provides opportunities for the parties to cooperate in the field of training of human resources by through practical training programmes and specialized workshops. A joint working team comprising specialists from both sides will be formed towards implementing the memorandum of understanding.
The MoU is part of the Sultanate's efforts to implement the Oman Logistics Strategy 2040 by making available crucial data and information in the field.
The National Center for Statistics and Information plays a key role in nation building by providing strategic information that is accurate and easily accessible. The Oman Global Logistics Group is tasked with the implementation of the nation's logistics strategy along with the management of government investments in the logistics sector.
