​There has been a 2.6% increase in the total area under cultivation in the Sultanate at the end of 2016. It increased from 197 thousand and 264 feddans at the end of 2015 to 202 thousand and 385.49 feddans at the end of 2016. Consequently, the total agricultural production increased from 1 million 792 thousand and 02 tons at the end of 2015 to 1 million 869 thousand and 140 tons, according to statistics released by the Centre.

Cultivated in an area of 77 thousand and 514.55 feddans, fodder accounted for the largest area of cultivated land with an output of 972 thousand and 800 tons. This was followed by fruit crops in 73 thousand and 443.32 feddans with a total production of 457 thousand and 660 tons and vegetables in 41 thousand and 310.17 feddans producing 413 thousand and 08 tons, while the total area under field crops cultivation stood at 10 thousand and 117.45 feddans. Among the fodder crops, Alfalfa was cultivated in 23 thousand and 626.47 feddans with a total output of 318 thousand and 950 tons. The total area cultivated with rhodic grass was 45 thousand and 161.11 feddans with a total production of 571 thousand and 120 tons. Sorghum was cultivated in 4 thousand and 179.6 feddans with a total production of 49 thousand and 410 tons, while the area cultivated with other fodder crops reached 4 thousand and 547.37 feddans with a total output of 33 thousand and 320 tons. Among fruit crops, date palm trees were grown in 57 thousand and 428.6 feddans, with a total production of 370 thousand and 370 tons, while mangoes were grown in 3 thousand and 564.26 feddans with 15 thousand and 670 tons of mangoes. Banana was cultivated in 3 thousand and 383.71 feddans with a total production of 16 thousand and 580 tons.

The total area under lemon cultivation stood at two thousand and 875.01 feddans with the produce touching 6 thousand and 200 tons, while coconut was grown in 1 thousand and 517.03 feddans with a total production of 6 thousand and 640 tons and papaya was cultivated in 691.76 feddans with a total production of 5 thousand and 770 tons while the total area cultivated with other fruit crops amounted to 3 thousand and 982.95 feddans with a total production of 36 thousand and 430 tons. Among vegetables, tomatoes accounted for the largest cultivated area in 4 thousand and 84.29 feddans producing 111 thousand and 7 tons followed by cauliflower in an area of 2 thousand and 832.41 feddans produced 22 thousand and 560 tons and peppers with a total area of 818.78 feddans producing 11 thousand and 1 tons and okra was cultivated in one thousand  and 653.9 feddans producing 6 thousand and 420 tons and onions in an area of 310.87 thousand feddans producing 8 thousand and 320 tons. The area under watermelon cultivation reached 1230.71 feddans and produced 11 thousand and 930 tons, Cantaloupe was planted in 1251.10 feddan and produced 10 thousand and 490 tons. Potatoes were planted in 1191 feddans and produced 13 thousand and 23 tons and eggplant in 1143.45 feddans and produced 9 thousand and 95 tons and cabbage was cultivated in one thousand and 69 feddans and produced 10 thousand and 14 tons.

The total cultivated area of the squash was 682.86 feddans, which produced one thousand and 820 tons and carrots were planted in 605.99 feddans and produced 3 thousand and 08 tons. Garlic was planted in 435.59 feddan and produced one thousand and 600 tons and radish cultivated in 345.53 feddan and producing 960 thousand tons. The area under cultivation of other vegetables crops reached 21 thousand and 576.99 feddan and produced 142 thousand and 970 tons.

In terms of field crops, Zea maize were planted in two thousand and 397.88 feddans with production touching 12 thousand and 4 tons. The total area cultivated with wheat was 2,000 and 213 feddan with production reaching two thousand 780 tons. Barley was cultivated in 1445.38 feddans and produced one thousand and 590 tons, while the other field crops were cultivated in 4 thousand and 61.19 feddans with a production of 9 thousand and 190 tons.
