​The number of stage performances in Omani theatres witnessed a phenomenal growth to 132 events in 2017 from merely 41 such events in the previous year, according to the monthly statistics released by the Centre.

The NCSI data shows that the number of theatres in the Sultanate also increased by 75 per cent to 14 theatres by the end of 2017, from 8 theatres of the end of 2016. However, the number of audiences increased by 15% per cent to 147,730 by the end of 2017 from 128,950 by end-2016, despite a remarkable growth in number of theaters and stage shows.

Further, the total number of theatre seats in the country dropped by 36,495 by the end of 2017 from 42,750 seats by end-2016.
