The Centre organized a lecture on "The Logistics Future of the Sultanate" on September 13. The lecture, which was held in cooperation with the Oman Logistics Center (ASYAD), was attended by a number of employees of the center as well as those from government organizations.
The lecture began with a brief overview of the logistics sector, its planning process, implementation and the details on the storage of goods and services from point of production to point of consumption. The cultural history and the strategic location of the Sultanate, which contribute to the maritime development and the prosperity of Oman's ports and helps in boosting its trade relations with other countries, were also discussed. The lecture explained how the commercial ports and harbors in Oman, which are spread across the long coast of more than 3,000-kilometres, provided a safe haven for ships. These ports have also been used as important points for international trade.
An introduction of Oman Logistics Center (ASYAD) was also given during the lecture. The centre possesses national logistics strategies aimed at making the Sultanate a global logistics hub through plans for developing the national market, facilitating business procedures, introducing advanced technical applications, and supporting national efforts for the development of human resources. The objectives of the Oman logistics strategy, which involves focusing on GDP growth and market share of goods flowing into the region, providing employment and business opportunities, and enhancing Oman's status in various logistics and industrial indices at a global level, were also emphasized in the lecture.
The lecture also presented some vital statistics related to the logistics sector of the Sultanate, including the Logistics Performance Index for 2018 issued by the World Bank, in which the Sultanate's position has jumped by five points. A survey conducted by the NCSI has also revealed increased satisfaction level of the business environment in the Sultanate and its support of logistics services.
