The Sultanate of Oman celebrates World Teacher`s Day which is commemorated on October 5th each year to recognize and honor the role played by teachers in providing quality education.
On this occasion, data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that the total number of teachers in Oman in academic year 2018/2019 amounted to 70,285 teachers; including Kindergarten schools teachers.
It is worth mentioning that these teachers are distributed in the Sultanate among public schools, private schools, international schools (foreign communities) and special education schools. However, about 80% of these teachers are concentrated in public schools where they reach 56,589 with an average teacher per 11 students of total 603,797 public school students; including 2,356 pre-school students.
The total number of Omani teachers in government schools was 47,915; including 34,551 female teachers and 13,364 male teachers, while the expat teachers are 8,674; including 3,618 female teachers and 5,056 male teachers.
Overall, the Omanization ratio for teachers in government schools amounted to 84.6 %where the ratio was 90.5% for female teachers compared to 72.6%for male teachers.
