The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), on Sunday 1st September kicked-off a training workshop on the Multi-Platform Application Re-hosting Solution (MARS), for managing data flow of the Sustainable Development Goals and how to report on it.
The workshop attended by a number of 88 participants representing the focal contact points of various government entities concerned with providing indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The workshop, which is implemented virtually by the NCSI, in cooperation with the United Nations Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) till 3rd of September, aimed to train focal contact points on how to use the application of (MARS), entering data and how to report on it.
Commenting on the importance of holding the training workshop, Sawsan bint Dawood AL-Lawati ,Director General of the General Directorate of Information at NCSI , stated that , the workshop implementation stems from the significant of accurately monitoring for what have been achieved in terms of the Sustainable Development Goals, which provide a global framework for working to solve the urgent global challenges we face in the twenty-first century ,through a comprehensive plan for the transition towards a better and more sustainable future for the entire world. Therefore, the accurate monitoring in and exact percentage for what has been achieved will contribute to accelerate the process of achieving the targeted goals.
She added that ,this workshop will contribute to enhance the integration and cooperation between the National Centre for Statistics and Information, and government entities , particularly in the field of statistical capacity building, as NCSI is concerned with monitoring indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals in coordination and cooperation with all relevant originations .
It is worth noting that, the Multi-Platform Application Re-hosting Solution (MARS), which launched by ESCWA is an electronic tool aims to enable national statistical systems in the Arab region to manage data flow and to facilitate the process of reporting on it, in line with the United Nations statistical work schedule, so that the concern data will be included in the UN reports that monitor the progress made in the sustainable development indicators for each country.
MARS application officially launched on Wednesday, 4th September, 2024, through a virtual ceremony attended by a number of dignitaries and officials of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the concerned representatives from government agencies and ESCWA.
