The National Centre for Statistics and Information, in
cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information
Technology, implemented on (Tuesday, 18th February 2025, a workshop
on the "National Accounts and the activities of Transport and Storage in
the Sultanate of Oman “, where a number of representatives of the entities
concerned with the logistics sector participated in the workshop.
The attendants included representatives
of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Oman
Investment Authority, Ministry of Economy, Civil Aviation Authority, and Asyad
Group.
The implementation of this workshop harmonizes
with the role played by NCSI in building statistical capabilities, enhancing
the principle of cooperation and partnership with various government entities.
The workshop aims to strengthen economic
knowledge of the national accounts system, highlighting the ways of monitoring the
indicators of transport and storage activities and the mechanism of calculating
the contribution of transport and storage activities to the gross domestic
product.
It also aims to enhance the knowledge
about the economic data analysis mechanism, as the transport and storage
activities are closely linked to the logistics sector, which considered as one
of the economic sectors relied upon to achieve economic diversification, in
accordance with the goals of the (Oman Vision 2040).
The workshop included an introduction to
national accounts as a set of accounting and statistical principles and
foundations that provide a complete image for the national economy, for a
specific period, as well as it works to record and analyzes the operations
carried out by various economic units.
The workshop also highlighted a few
basic concepts of importance in national accounts such as residence concept in
the national accounts system, institutional units, economic territory, and
institutional operations, while addressing methods of calculating the gross
domestic product with practical exercises on calculating the value of gross
production, total intermediate consumption, and gross value added.
The workshop also addressed the sub-accounts,
including the nature of sub-accounts, their objectives, and main
characteristics, as well as focused on the sub-account for the logistics
sector.
The event also highlighted the mechanism
for estimating the volume of internal logistics services by using detailed data
on transportation and storage within nonspecialized establishments in
transportation field and evaluating the logistics services of households by
calculating the consumption of logistics assets, such as vehicles and other
operating costs.
