The total number of active private institutions in the Sultanate of Oman during the fourth quarter of 2024, rising by 11.2% to reach 267,734 institutions compared to 240,765 institutions in the same period of 2023, according to the monthly bulletin issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The micro-enterprises sector witnessed significant growth of 14%, reaching a total of 234,979 enterprises compared to 206,059 in the fourth quarter of 2023. In contrast, small enterprises declined by 6%, dropping to 30,163 enterprises from 32,085 during the same period in 2023. Medium-sized enterprises saw a slight decrease of 2%, with their number falling to 1,867 compared to 1,905 in the previous year. Meanwhile, large enterprises experienced a growth of 1.3%, increasing to 725 enterprises from 716 in 2023.
Regarding employment, the total the number of workers in private enterprises actually operating in the Sultanate of Oman declined by 0.9% in the fourth quarter of 2024, reaching 1,806,518 workers compared to 1,823,660 in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The number of workers in the large enterprises decreased by 0.7% to 432,452 workers, while employment in medium-sized enterprises dropped by 2.5% to 151,846 workers. The number of employees in small enterprises declined by 6.5% to 537,313 workers. On the other hand, micro-enterprises recorded a growth of 4.1%, reaching 684,907 workers.
