The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has organized a lecture on the statistical work and the mechanism of collecting data at the Shomoukh International School in the Wilayat of Seeb to mark the World Statistics Day that falls on the 20th of October. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Yaqub bin Khamis Al-Zedjali, an NCSI official, who presented a brief background about the Centre and its functional framework. Al-Zedjali described the sources of field data and also data obtained from administrative records. He also talked about the various tools used by NCSI in the process of collecting the data. He also highlighted the difference between census and sample survey, and the objectives and ways of conducting population census. Finally, he called on the students to collaborate with the researchers and data collectors and provide them with the necessary data, and also work toward raising the awareness of their families and friends about the significance of statistics in ensuring national development.
